Always nice to see the pretty cats on the tables. The put-ups and care that you witness are light years ahead of the first sales I attended in the 70's. It's pretty cool in the mornings of auction watching these guys walk in with their cats on hangers to keep the fur looking pristine. They earn all the money they get for them.

Although it does almost make more sense than Vinke's post in English.

Carl - remember when Prineville used to be a two day sale? First day was just cats!!! Talk about spots on the tables. That was quite a sight!!

Those two day sales don't seem that long ago. But probably was 20 years ago. Exciting times at a sale for me. Things have evolved, some good, some not so. Pineville remains a.good.sale.

John - I vaguely remember a 3 day sale at Powell Butte - a suburb of Prineville. Must have been in the 80s. Building was so small, we had fur everywhere. Were you at that sale?

Powell Butte was my first sale. I am thinking early to mid 70's. Had three called in coyotes that I had stretched on 2X4's. $7 for all three. My fur handling education started there. Odd how coyote prices are about the same this year. smirk

Do you remember the first OTC sales? I believe they were first incorporated in WA. I know there was a sale at Rochester WA that went 7 days. I don't remember the year but sometime in the 70s. I was told it was reincorporated in OR because the laws were friendlier. Seems like I was told that one sale sold $7 million in furs. Of course, that was about the first trapper auction and fur came in from all over the west.
