We went dove hunting and also picked up a few pigeons, I liked the pigeons better than the doves.

Had a cousin always had homing pigeons. At one time he had some meat birds too. Think he called them kings? They were bigger birds than the Homer's. I never have tried it though.

If you like doves you will love pigeon. Just like a dove but bigger. Last we had were some that were living in the neibors barn trapping on the hay. They shot them with the sling shots. One was banded racing homer 720 from Oklahoma city where it was banded.

I raise and have eaten pigeons. Pigeon is good to eat, but I seldom eat it because I sell most pigeons for $25.00 to $40.00 each, with some as high as $200.00 each.

There are a number of squabbing breeds of pigeons, which get larger and heavier, with larger breasts. I currently have White Utility Kings, which are probably the most common squabbing breed. I have in the past had French Mondaines, Swiss Mondaines, Hungarian House Pigeons, Giant Runts, Show Kings, Giant Homers, Show Homers, Crests and Modenas, which are all used to produce squabs for eating.

I raise large numbers of Homing Pigeons, which some people use to produce squabs as well.

They are ok. A better use is bobcat trapping. Especially where no game animal or parts is legal. Domestic rabbits are good the same way if you get a chance to buy some cull does on the cheap.

I agree, we love doves but we like pigeons even better. They are absolutely delicious when prepared properly, which amounts to breasting them out and frying them to a rare or medium rare in butter on cast-iron.

Eh...wot?

I have shot many pigeons when dove hunting, and they were always like trying to eat a super ball, tasted fine but you'd be able to che w on them all day. Never has squab but would happily eat it

Older pigeon is best rare or cooked long and low for about an hour, with plenty of moisture. Just like wild duck.
