160's thread got me thinking about a single shot .22 rifle that I have. It was on a shelf in my dad's garage after he passed away. It is a Remington Model 6 .22 rifle. Pretty tough shape but I wouldn't be afraid to shoot it.
Does anyone know anything about that Remington model 6 .22 cal.

They were made to compete with the Stevens Crackshot and Favorite. They were well built and they made a pile of them in 3 rimfire calibers. The target market for them was a s utility gun or a kids first gun. They are a neat piece of history.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Thank You All for your time. I will do some research on the gun too. I can't find any numbers what so ever that I can see. Has Model 6 22 short, long rifle and address in NY etc. Is there any SN or numbers of significance and where would it be located at on gun.

My older brother is pretty big into those old single shots. He is always working one over. He has sleeved quite a few barrels on them.

How crazy of an idea is to have this model 6 reinvent the short rifle into a pistol. Is something like converting this gun to a pistol doable and have conversions of gun something that happen?
I'm not a gun knowledgeable person so I'm trying to learn if it can be done.

I'm not a gun knowledgeable person so I'm trying to learn if it can be done. NFA no no. Rifles can not be converted to pistols. They would then be short barreled rifles and would require a tax stamp. Tax stamp required prior to conversion. However, the reverse is permissible. A pistol frame can be made into a rifle as long as the barrel is greater than 16" and overall 26" or more. A pistol with stock and sub 16" barrel would be illegal though. It's the frame that is the serialized firearm and once a rifle always a rifle. Shotguns are the same. BUT if the generic basic stripped frame is first assembled as a pistol or AOW then it's neither a rifle or shotgun, ever.

warrior I did a little looking on the subject after I posted and that is basically what I found. I would like to get it in working order not sure it will fire or not. I did take off the stock it was micky moused, so I took it off.
I might have to make a stock and get a rod to run through stock and tighten at butt plate. I will clean it up and see if it will fire a 22 short.

I might have to make a stock and get a rod to run through stock and tighten at butt plate. . . [/quote] I’ve had my grandpa’s Remington 22 for several years. Where the butt stock is fastened, it was heavily taped and loose, so I always assumed stock was broken or worse. A year or two ago, I took the tape off, and saw the stock looked good. I then took the butt plate off, found me an extension, tightened it up like the day it left the factory.
