So just because I have numerous 20V Dewalt batteries I tried their 12" chainsaw. One cut and returned it.
After much research and videos I bought an Echo 56V 5AH 18" bar for $299 at Home Depot. Cut a couple pieces of firewood and it's a beast so far. After the snow melts I'll give it a good test. I kept the receipt just in case.

The local Ace Hardware went all electric the last time I was in there the gas powered stuff was gone! Still had oils, chains and bars but not a gas saw to be found. Went to Mac’s hardware in Sioux Falls they still had the gas powered stuff for sale.

Did you mean ego?I got one with a 2.5 battery and used for a little under ice beaver this winter.Seems like a nice saw.

that isn't a bad price what do more batteries run?

I have my eye on the Rigid 12 inch because if I need to cut more than about 8 inches I am firing up the gas saw

I want it for camping and maybe to clear a few limbs quietly in the river and I already have several rigid batteries.

you would almost be better buying a second saw so that you have a spare bar and chain

My gas powered chain saw is a Stihl with the easy2start feature. I don't see a time I'd ever switch to electric. It's so easy to start and operate. No yanking on the rope, just pull it slowly out and it starts right up. I'm not a logger, just cut a cord or two of firewood a year.

Two trees being taken down in this video. One guy uses an battery powered saw, the other standard, small gas powered. I ca't tell the brand, but they sure are impressed the the battery saw.

It is an Echo but Ego makes fine equipment too. Nothing for $299 however. I still have a Stihl 250 and a Husky 455 Rancher for the big stuff but I'm getting old enough I don't use it much.

I have used a Milwaukee it was no gas saw but it was very useful for a limbing and some 4x4s

for firewood production it definitely isn't going to replace my gas saws

especially since once I am in big wood with the 2166 even cutting with the 455 is like watching paint dry

I get some pieces of firewood that are too long I can split them at 24 inches but the stove won't take them over 18

for camping I figured 38 bundles of firewood at a state park is = 1 Rigid saw and it comes with a 6ah battery which on my grinder or impact is definitely value added.

We own one of the DeWalt 12” battery powered chainsaws, and we have found it very useful so far. It dose t have the strength to tackle a big monster tree, but we only need it to help clear small pins and brush.

That's something I didn't check into but a good point.
Harbor Freight has an 80V WORX for $150 but a battery is another $150 and reviews suck so..

I use the 20 volt battery on drills and impact drivers, when I put the 60 flex volt on them it does make a difference, and my chainsaw is a 60 volt.

Took me awhile to understand that flexvolt thing but I think I got it.

Basically a 60 volt is in series vs 20 that in parallel, same thing as 12 and 24 volt in old tractors the 4010 John Deere is and example of this as some were 24 and some were 12 now most converted them to 12 as you just changed the starter and connected the batteries different.
