The Holy Grail of coyote control trapping is a warm weather M44 pull bait/lure. That is what I am after.
Any help would be appreciated.
My current go-to bait is as follows:
6 oz. Coyote brains 6 oz. Coyote liver 1 oz. Beaver tail oil 1 oz. Glycerine 1/2 oz. Beaver castor 3 drops lovage 2 TB sodium benzoate
All ground fresh in a little blender. It gets real soft and creamy. Nice for smearing on a bait head.
Let sit for a week before setting if I have time. If not, I’m not afraid to set it same day.
I’m always trying little variations. Any ideas to make it better?

I don’t have definitive answers, but maybe some honey or lard? I made some pork belly burnt ends this evening and the lard that rendered out of that pork belly in the smoker might make a good ingredient according to how my dog was licking the grass where I poured the grease I think he was looking for a warm weather lure. While lard/fats are great attractants in the fall when animals are trying to bulk up for the winter, they lose a lot of their attraction in warm weather and get hard to work with. Same with honey; it's a good fall/early winter ingredient but gets real messy in warm weather.

I use coyote brain and liver because that is what I used in the first batch I made last spring. It worked, so I stuck with it. Plus I have a steady supply of them since I trap nearly year round.
Our coyotes are funny about beef. I think we did too much 1080 baiting way back when. So I stick with wild game that has not been given any medications. I have used deer brain and liver, but it did not do as well as coyote for me. We don’t have beaver here, so that is out. I’m not even sure if all brains and livers smell the same or not. I’d love to hear some info on it.
I used glycerine because I had it on hand. I am also trying lanolin, but I haven’t got enough tests to get a significant result. I’m just trying to keep the lure from drying out on the bait head. Glycerine is stable at warmer and cooler temps.
I have fiddled with rendered bone marrow in place of and in addition to glycerine. I got it from a friend and I’m now out of it. It seemed to work fine. But I’m out now.
I have tried many, many professional lures and have some favorites. But I think natural is best, especially on warmer nights.
I hope to make 10-20 variations of lure this spring and set out grab sticks to test what gets pulled best. I’ll try cultured eggs for sure.
We do not have a high density of coyotes here. So testing may prove hard. But I’m going to give it my best shot. Thanks everyone for your input so far. Just trying to learn as I go.

I ordered the lube. In place of glycerine, I also thought about using…
Leftover BBQ fat Bacon grease Cultured egg base (as Mark suggested) Used cooking oil I am testing lanolin now Rendering some deer organ fat I don’t know how to render fat. I’d like input on the best way.
I hope to eventually have many variations so I can rotate the lures.
