waiting in the lot to pick her up. An hour ago she was awake following with eyed but not raising her head or geting up yet. Waiting is geting old so I'm premature on my update .
Older dogs take a little longer to come out of any anesthesia than a younger dog, just like people. Just be there for the dog and know you did what you could. That will ease the pain a little if the outcome goes south. A heart felt Good luck to you!!

Not much to add but thought I should . So you know she survived the surgery, put her on a blanket on the car and used it like a stretcher to carry her in the house and put her in her spot on my side of the bed. I offered her fresh cold water and she went after it to the point I cut her off not wanting her to throw it up and bust stiches. I gave my 22 year old instructions to offer her limited water about every 15 mins and went to get her pedilite. Naturally she dose not seem to like it only took a few drinks and prefered water. so I lightly spiked her water. She didn't like it as much but did drink more. Now its just a wait and see..
The vet did say it's not normal for her to be down ad long or as hard and when he opend her black liquid ran out he didn't know where it came from and something he could not find may have been nicked. He was not overly reassuring. I will be surprised if she makes it 5 days I hope I'm wrong and she starts acting better soon. Follow up on Thursday afternoon at the vets office. Hopefully she will be able to load on her own by then I can't miss more work .
Forgot to get the pedilite when we were out because the youngest called worked up about someone had broken in and was in our log cabin. The door was open he went in heard walking up stairs peaked up the stairs and saw a guy up there and got out fast. It was dusk and dark in the cabin and he didn't get a good look. They were in foot so didn't come from to far. I suspect from one of the rent houses the next road back. I went and let then know I some one was messing around and to keep an eye out on their place. That whoever it is must not realize that's a good way to end up dead. Basically letting them know they are warned without making any warnings or threats.
I'm surprised she made it through the surgery hopefully she keeps surprising me. Her drinking vigorously was really an up lifting moment. Trying not to get false hope though.

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/03/full-53884-250647-1000001368.jpg) About 5 this morning. wife told me since I left she has drank mor water and about 1/4 cup of chicken brothe she made for her last night. So far still not geting up but wife thinks she more alert. Hopefully not just wishful thinking. My main concern is on the vets first cut he said a lot of black liquid came out at him and he could never find the source. Hopefully it was from parts he took out or if not it's stopped. I'm not used to being on the edge of my seat like this or so worried about an animal or my wife's reaction if we loose her. Last night I woke up to her scream when she thought she was dead. Lucked out and she was just sleeping hard and felt cold likely from still damp from when the vet washed her after surgery. It's going to be a long week.

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/03/full-53884-250719-1000001370.jpg) 2nd trip out sure can tell she does not fell well in the picture. Spoiled thing will only eat the rotisserie chicken and would likely try to eat the entire thing if she would let her but she has to limit her the first few days. She Is not interested in drinking out of the bowl but if you scoop it in your hand and hold it over the bowl she drinks out of her hand. And I thought that dog was the most spoiled before this But she was like you ain't seen nothing yet I'm starting to think she will live may be dangerous to think that but she is definitely on the mend and the wife is happy as am I. Thanks for all the well wishes everyone who made them . I'm sure some are probably tired of my updateds by now. Well maybe not lots of dog people here but I still probably over doing it.

Good to hear! Glad you are keeping her nice and comfy and helping her recover! That's now my wife. I did leave work 14 hrs early yesterday to get home as soon as my wife called but had to get back to work this morning. But my wife Is keeping me updated and our dog could not be in better hands. Hopefully she keeps improving and does not have a bad turn fingers crossed. She has her follow up at the vet tomorrow afternoon.

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/03/full-53884-250791-1000001372.jpg) On the way to the vet. She loaded in the van and hoped into that seat without any help. Vet was really surprised she was doing so well and already eating from what the wife said. Said she looked so good he didn't feel the need to take her temp. said the only thing to watch for Is if she swells up and geta an infection. She is on antibiotics and pain medication and has an appointment to remove stiches on the 18th. . I feel comfortable she will very likely make it at this point. She ate some dog food this morning and not just chicken. It's hard to get her to want to get uo and go out but she moves well when she dose and did some of her normal trot pace when she went out Today. thing are definitely looking up and I'm glad I didn't shoot her.

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/03/full-53884-251021-1000001373.jpg) I got this early this morning. It was an early morning since they have to drive an hour and half for a rabbit show. For those that think it was to much money to take a chance on her This picture is well worth more than triple the cost. How happy my wife is can't have a price put on it. Yesterday was her 44th birthday She would not be looking happy had I chose to not spend the cash and take a low % chance on her dog. I'm just blessed I had the ability to do so. We still may loose her to an infection but it was worth the chance. still yet It was not an easy decision thinking your throwing money away on a low % chance. been lucky so far.

Glad to hear the dog is doing better! Just be careful to not be setting yourself up for a big fall. Big Bob

Glad to hear the dog is doing better! Just be careful to not be setting yourself up for a big fall. Big Bob There is always that possibility. She is a long way from me willing to think she is safe at least from what I'm being told. But it looks like I'm going home tonight instead if tomorrow night so about 1020pm eastern I will be able to get a look at her in person for the first time since the day of her operation. I will be off work and home the next 5 days and hopefully by then she will be out of the woods.
