160 of all the Apple trees you planted which is the hardiest and best growing? Also what type of soil are you planting in? Acorns and hazelnuts grow good at my cabin. Have chokecherry,Saskatoon, cranberry and pinch cherry growing well. Have some crab apple coming along nicely but sounds like you have 30 years of apple growing and probably know the best varieties for the weather which is probably close to what I have. I am more in sandy soil but have some spots with nice black dirt.
Any info would be great.

My best luck has been with a variety of "ornamental" crabs. These are the small, Kidney bean sized one. They seem to be very forgiving on where they grow including swamps, clay and sand. I believe many nurseries refer to these as either "Domestic" or "Midwest" but I have found Dolgo's to be very adaptable also.
Some of my oldest (and worst) apples were dug up from an old homestead near the Canadian border. They grow well but the apples ripe early and are bags of applesauce by the first frost.

I have nothing clever to put here.
