No they don't.you're guessing wrong... (no way near all of it anyway..)
Buyers have told me..more than one big buyer from different regions of the country...That have physically been. To the auction.. they have it in big buildings with guys whose job is to solely walk around and spray for bugs..
That's why one year your fur grades good..then is held.over and the next year your grade for that fur drops..bug damaged fur always drops in grades.
FHA guys and gals...jump on me if you want but the fur buyers that told me wouldnt make it up..and they werent together when they told me either....its got so bad that they'd rather buy straight from the trappers..which is why they often contact us asking us to get them in contact with trappers that the can provide quality pelts they know aren't damaged.
Theyll say hey..we need 200 reds(has happened) we send the info on to fur buyers we know so they can fill the orders.
Jerry doesn't buy the fur(he's not a buyer) he just puts the buyer in contactt with the guy that can get then what they need.
Jerry himself has sold.to guys clear across the country cause the buyers want to ensure the quality so he goes.striqght We should find out soon how the grades are effected. The beaver I dropped off last June were tossed into a freezer at the warehouse in Winnipeg, but I got some room now. As a buyer, why would you want to be bidding against someone else? As a trapper, would you want several buyers bidding on your fur? Last year was like watching a horse race. One lot started at $28 and ended at $53......I was happy with the outcome!....lol

The beaver market will come back, Fedora's and Cowboy hats are still popular and selling well. The problem for trappers is that the Felters have a 2 1/2 year supply of skins at the moment, and there are still a lot of beaver pelts in trappers and dealers freezers. So my guess would be 2-3 years before there is a significant increase in price again. Possibly with the exception of Northern mid winter shearing beaver being needed and [picking up in price Curious about the intel on 2.5 year supply?
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Beavers you cannot hide anything-heres the leather and heres the hair-nothing in between. Being a private buyer I can use just about everything we can buy-and we mostly buy by size and quality no so much on damage these days. Some trappers want their money and others want to wait. Lets say you caught beavers last spring and just finished putting them up because you caught a bunch etc.. takes you almost a year to see your return-thats a long wait from the time you pull them out of the trap.12 months the prices can change drastically in either direction so it always a gamble to put stuff on auction.Just saying is all

It sure is rolling the dice as to what the market does almost a year later. I wouldn't bash trappers that want cash now, just like Thompson or our last years AGM, private guys, GFW & FHA tables beside each other. A fella from up north had a bag full of marten, can't recall how much but it was around $3000 he was paid. He said he knew giving it to the FHA table he could see a bigger profit, but said that Mb Hydro will match his check from GFW. Hydros dams effect his line and that's the agreement that particular reserve has with the Corporation. He was happy!

Not gonna happen... The wv sale had no buyer competition and the prices showed that but who can be mad at thw buyers?? That's stupid. Maybe the association can send out invites to fur buyers asking them to attend? Maybe they do..i don't know. But I buyer out of jersey tha told us he doesn't come to wv anymore because there's not enough fur for sale to make it worth his while a.and then Dayton died.

What if there's a bidder that want's a certain batch of cars and another jerk wants them too? Everyone told me when I started that a nice female fisher is what you want, the buyers said otherwise. How bad does the bidder want that $15000 car?

With the price for hatters in the ballpark of 50% cheaper this season will the harvest be off a lot? Means you have to increase your catch rate by 50% ! No, it means you have to increase your catch by 100%!!
