1987, those were bad times but there was a lot of good sales before that. I took wild furs to SFX though after that when they were an agent for FHA. Anyone remember the Cascade Select Label? At one time raw furs were the 8th largest export item from WA. Now we can't even get a fur byer to set foot in the State.

I honestly don’t remember. Sorry. SFX was still in the building across from South Center Mall. I’ll try and find that paperwork, as I keep everything.

Well I'm going to date myself, but I was only eight years old at the time. I know it was a household name growing up, but my dad and grandpa wouldn't sell there and had nothing much good to say about it. I don't know the story, and I knew a lot of old timers (many of them gone now) who really liked to sell there and hated to see it go, but to this day SFX is the reason my dad won't deal with FHA.

I know 87 was a bad year for the fur market, that my dad still mentions from time to time. But your description, humptulips, sounds just like mine of NAFA, I got burned real bad when they went under, but I had a lot of good sales and did real good for a lot of years before that.

I took a lot of beaver to SFX after the name changed and among other things they worked as a depot for FHA. In fact I was at one of the FHA sales held there one year. Never ate so well!

The first time I delivered my fur there they graciously gave me a tour. Approx. $20 million of fur in the place at the time, about a third of that on the sorting room floor. I saw furs I had only heard of, lynx, wolverine, wolf even a rack of sea otter. Later on, after they were receiving for FHA, I took my years catch up, asked them how much wild fur they were getting and they told me I was the largest wild fur shipment to date. About then a truck driver delivered 5000 blue fox. Put my little bundle of furs in perspective. They had a shipment of brushtail possum from NZ so I got to see something new that time too.
Really derailed this thread!

Derailed and improved Bruce! Remember seeing racks of chinchilla for the first time too. A softer fur does not exist.
