My mom used to add oatmeal to the hamburger to add volume to the mixture. We were farmers and I never have figured out why she did that - but now I realized she was born during the depression and grew up during WWII.

Add a package of stove top stuffing instead of bread crumbs.

Ground veal, ground pork, and ground moose or beef is a tasty mixture. Then add most anything others have mentioned above. Meatloaf sandwiches are the bomb!

We add dark green sweet pickle chunks into our meatloaf. The pickle chunks are from a recipe my mother in-law taught us. Our meatloaf has a can of tomato soup, 6-10 crushed saltines crackers, a couple ounces of tomato sauce and an egg. The pickle chunks make it 100% better than my mom used to make. Hers needed catchup, which you couldn’t ask for, because that would insult her cooking.

mine is Dill pickles the pickles remind me of Rouladen which I guess traditionally is made with rolled thin sliced meat but the freind and his german wife I learned about Rouladen from used seasoned burger around the gerkens.

I also add a few eggs to bind it as mine is almost always venison got that idea from a butcher's wife who told me forget adding fat to the burger an egg to a pound and it will patty up just fine.

I was raised on meatloaf, loved it hen and still do. Momma would put milk soaked bread in it to stretch it out. Still ain't nothing better than a cold leftover ML Sandwich!

Lots of nice ideas posted. I took some notes from different posts.

I'm going to mix it up a bit and improvise soon. Nice moist meatloaf seasoned just right is always my goal. Some of these ideas are different, so I'm looking forward to trying them out. I'll just add in what sounds good. No measuring. That's how I usually cook anyway. With these things. I also want to try with Italian pork sausage. I think that will be great , too.

Special note- for those who don't want any sugar or that horrid High Fructose corn syrup, ketchup sells options with NO added sugar or any of the "ose" sweeteners at all. Just all natural ingredients. I won't have anything else in catchup. Howevah its spelled.... It is really good, too. That nevah needs sugar or any sweetener.

Gal at my VFW Post makes a killer ML for our informal meeting dinners, she dumps in a pack of ML seasoning and a couple of packs of Beef gravy mix.

X 2 with miracle whip instead of catsup when making sandwich. Warm or cold is great.
