1982

11 miles from Philadelphia. Suburbs have more red fox now than back then.

When did the coyotes show up in your area Bruce?

Wasnt until ~1991 around here. There were some rumors of them around during the mid 80's but given the number of fairly good fox trappers in that era I never recall anyone ever showing up with one at auction etc so there couldnt have been many. But quite possible that there were explorers coming thru the area before they really got established. Last long fox line I ran was in 89 and never saw any then but the country was overrun with reds just after the 87 market crash. Only took a couple of years and the reds were nearly non-existent

Yes we do.

My brother and I were green newbies, barely self-taught. Nobody shared trapping information back then. So we stumbled and bumbled and screwed up a lot. We still managed to catch a few $65.00 reds, $40.00 coon and $8.00-$12.00 muskrats, the black ones on the high end.

We dealt with a lot of Johnny-Sneakums too.

Eh...wot?

We had a Johnny-Sneakum, an older guy, stealing our muskrats and putting skinned carcasses in their place. We were so inexperienced we were trying to figure what critter would eat just the skin off a rat. We were so dumb but eventually figured it out.

Eh...wot?
