Yesterday morning I was inspecting traps when I noticed a coyote stand up, stretch then layed back down. I assumed he was trapped but didn’t want to chance it without my gun in hand. My truck was only 100ft away so I retrieved my rifle and crept back towards the coyote. He heard and saw me. He trots off about 60ft in the thicket. Giving me enough time to brace up and wait. He slowly makes his way back towards my traps and gives me a good shoulder shot. He runs off into the woods where I found him deceased after I dispatched a female coyote that was stuck in one trap. The ol boy didn’t want to leave his gal. Anyone else ever experience anything similar?

My experience has been when the female was caught sometimes she was all bit to (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) and the male was either in my second set or loped off as I pulled up to the set. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Dog coyote helps raise pups. Was the female pregnant? A mated pair stays pretty close this time of year. May have been one from last years litter hanging around too.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Years ago I had a nice female bobcat in a trap under a pinion tree. After I dispatched her I set her aside and started to reset my trap when I heard a low growl. My first thought was she aint dead. But I turned around and heard another growl and it wasn't her. Went to the truck 20 feet away and grabbed my .22 mag. I located and shot the tom crouched under another nearby tree. Hormones can get a boy in trouble sometimes.
United we stand.
