eric space OP trapper E Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 1,421 wantage n.j.	Not many rats around here anymore but thought I would catch a couple. Set 4 traps yesterday in some of my old favorite culverts. Had 18 rats this morning so I pulled the traps. Had 7 in one trap, 4 in each of the next 2 traps and finished with 3 black rats in the last one.

Don't know if I'm setting up wrong or if they're just hiding in their lodges since it's been icing over the last few nights. I'll leave them a few more days since I'm trapping beaver nearby but after that I think I'll wait till the ice buggers off.

Gut them first, they eat all the rest except the top and bottom jaws. All the big cats (from bobcats on up to Tigers) always eat the feet first on both muskrats and woodchucks.

The Beav trapper T Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 24,386 Wisconsin	We here in WI can use colony traps but we can't place them in culverts. The best i ever did In ND was 12 in one 8x8 x30 trap. With 4 traps in the culvert, we took 22 rats in one check. A very effective trap. The forum Know It All according to Muskrat
