Currently, I use a very small chest freezer that doesn't work to store my trapping lure and bait in. I keep them in the freezer in my workshop where I keep the heat set at 55 in the winter. I do not have ac in the shop. It really wreaks bad when I open it but I open the garage doors and air it out and its good to go.

The chest freezer I use is very small like the size of a small cooler. I also keep a 25 pound bag of shot on it for added weight and sealing. I have never smelled anything through the freezer.

Recently through [bleep] house luck my 17 cu feet standing up right freezer decided to crap out and the compressor went. It would cost more than I paid for it to repair it. I bought it new just like three years ago. I want to move it to my workshop and use it to store my old bait and lure in. I am afraid that it will not seal as good because I can not put any weight on the seal. However it does lock and the seal is in very good condition.

Has anyone ever used an upright freezer to store in? A friend of mine said I should just leave it outside and use it. However I like my bait and Lure unfrozen. It is harder to use when it is frozen or burst.

Any opinions???

I've used an old upright to store bait with no problem.

I currently have an up right refrigerator freezer I use to store both baits and lures plus sometimes pelts in the freezer side I turn the cold down to minimum on the refrige side and the same on the freezer side, have no smells leaking out of it and it's just a magnetic seal on the door , works well have had it my shop for years and it never leaks a scent !
