Beginning in early 2026, the Fond du Lac Band are planning elk will be moved over a five to 10 year period from existing herds in NW MN to the reservation in Carlton and southern St Louis counties. The plan is to restore a once abundant native species to suitable habitat in NE MN.

The MN DNR despite years of tough political fights in the NW corner of the state supports the planning efforts. Kelsie LaSharr, the DNR's newly appointed elk coordinator says, "Fond du Lac is leading the way, but we are supporting them and working with them on the project."

IMO, NE MN is a far better area for elk than the NW with all the farming taking place in the NW area of the state. I guess I'm being a pessimist considering the overpopulation of wolves in the North and northeast sections of MN. How will that affect reproduction of the elk herd like wolves have in so many other western states that have a large population of wolves?

My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.

Where do wolves not live? Around farms. Where will elk go for easy food and protection from predators? Farms.

The wolves are going to be too fat to run.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Lots of wolves where the elk currently reside

The only thing getting fat will be the DNR and tribes bank accounts once they start to “raffle” the hunts. $$$ is all they care about, regardless of how poorly they manage it.

lots of Wolves southeast of us here-they don't know borders-they'll love all the new additions for their diets lol My buddy contacted me yesterday-1 mile south of Winnipeg-2 wolves killed a deer on the Red River yesterday-pretty close to home. All kidding aside though-we do have a ton of wolves in the southeast corner of our province and they hammer everything they catch. One pack had 18 animals in it-not much getting away from that.

That's a bingo!
Carry it further and the raffle hunts will end. It will be , this is what we can offer.

I think they are a good fit in the area ! I want some Woodland Carbiou up in the Arrowhead ! Maybe Trump can figure out how to swing a quick trade with Ontario before we own them !

Hardly, Ontario is lost,.not to us but as a result most could identify with. Populated areas relegating rural occupants.
Not so shocking considering as that which is obvious is so often displayed here within our own jurisdiction .
