i have been posting on the rub post but thought I should start different one to not be disrespectful to the original posting on that one.
If you are in the south and are trapping in these freaking briar patches and pine thickets. You have a TON of sets you can use to take advantage of a cats natural instinctual behaviors and hunting targets. Squirrel hides, tails, heads and rabbit parts the same as the aforementioned will be a staple in these woods. If you duck hunt or have buddies that do, have them save the heads, winds and feather for you. These will always illicit their predatory and thievery nature when set on sign and especially on these four wheeler two tracks in transition zones from heavy timber through new harvest and new growth plantations.
Cats, to me are the easiest species to trap. Their instincts and natural God given curiosity will make them mess up real quick and in a hurry.
In the area where Bulletbox and Sam Petty live, a deceased lamb or goat head is absolute money in a cubby set with rocks or mesquite debris. The only thing needed is some good cat pee, and the visual attractant of the lambs head, push up into the briars or brush about 5-6 feet. Make a very clear and clean approach to that head in the boxed in cubby. In the two track, i used a machete to scratch up the track closest to the set, place some lamb fur, feathers or rabbit fur in the middle of that marking and place a rock on it where it wont be two counties over in thirty minutes. Use about ten drops of good cat pee on top of that rock and a cat turd from a place many miles away. Where the cubby is on a right angle to this eye appeal, use just a good cat gland lure and a different bottle of cat pee to simulate two different cats visiting this site. That my fellow trappers is game over in a couple of days. then once you catch the first cat there. Reconstruct the set as the cat you caught will leave ample scent there to add to the appeal of the next one that passes by. Thus taking advantage of the territorial and breeding mindset of any cat that comes by next. It works.

Sounds like the set would work well. But, I would caution against using duck/goose heads, wings or feathers. Much bettter to use local game animals/birds or domestic poultry. Using migratory bird parts is illegal, I think. https://www.fws.gov/lab/featheratlas/feathers-and-the-law.phpI have heard of people being ticketed for this, although I do not know anyone personally who has been.

I have heard of people being ticketed for this, although I do not know anyone personally who has been. Also varies by state. Here in WI we can't use any animal parts that are "visible." Regardless of type.
