Looking to get a couple MB 750 for beaver. Should I get the offset or standard?

If you already had some offsets, I'd say there no issue using them for beaver. But since you're buying them specifically to trap beaver, get the regular jaws.

I have a few offset jawed 750’s that I bought used for a deal too good to pass up. Offset isn’t my preference for water trapping but knock on wood I’ve never had one of those offset 750’s set off without a beaver in them.

I tried to get my 750 OS traps to do double duty, wolf/beaver and save a buck. All I had was snapped off traps with the off sets. I had a cam on them, some were rats, some were beaver. You’d have to target a back leg and hope you get em high. I bought a few regular jaw and parked the off sets to only use for wolves.

Offsets close better. The levers come up higher. And their toe joints don't slip through quarter inch offsets. But I've always been different.

I have a bunch of no.3 coils from the old days that were 4 coiled and did double duty as a coyote/beaver trap.I didn't have any problems,as a matter of fact I was surprised they performed as well as they did.

Our wolf traps are 3/8 gap and a front catch will slip out. Never an empty beaver 750.

Yeah, I was going to mention that 750 OS come with two different offsets, your choice, 3/8" or 1/4". Mine are 3/8", not sure if both are approved in Canada or not. Personally I always use close jawed and almost always toothed traps for beaver. I realize that in many states traps with teeth are not legal, even on drowning sets, (if I want to set a beaver trap in Oregon, I have to grab different traps without teeth)so check the regs where you are trapping, but I would recommend closed jaw for beaver and otter if legal, if you must use offset use as narrow an offset as you can. Most smaller traps, #3 and #4, etc, have 3/16" offsets.

3/8 offset here for K9, but the regular jawed 750 Beaver is fine for just that, beaver on a drowning setup.

I know this thread is a few weeks old (not sure if you’ve already bought traps). I would go with the regular jaw with lamination added, I trap beaver for a living can’t tell you how many times that laminated jaws have held a beaver by the toe. If you trap long enough it is going to happen, just a little extra insurance.

Like said above. I would stay with the narrower off set with targeting front leg. I have never used offset traps for beaver but think the bigger traps would work with a higher leg catch.

never had an issue with offsets with beaver but i do catch most by the front feet but i could see problems with a toe catch but you could say the same thing about coyotes or any other critter

Catch all of our beavers with offsets, no issues.

Personally, I like the bite of a non-laminated, regular jaw for beaver.

I've tried all mods over the years.
