I absolutely would have loved to rough skin it, but I left my jacket in the car, and I left my knife in my jacket, a discovery I made about fifteen seconds after I picked it up.

If I had to guess it's north of 45lbs. Going to toss it on the scale when I get home. Going to sleep well tonight after that workout.

Definitely want to keep a knife handy, a hide is way easier to pack out than a whole beaver lol

What sucks is I also have a framed backpack specifically for hauling beaver skins out of the bushes. Didn't have that. Didn't have my knife. Didn't have a clue. At least I didn't forget my back.

A 6x8’ tarp makes easy work of dragging beaver, and other critters out if your terrain allows it. The tarp, some gangion or twine to lace the tarp shut, and a bit of rope to bridle with all fit in a small rucksack.
Knocking the hide off is better, if you don’t have to work through more than a couple beaver that way.

I mostly walk the dried riverbeds when I can, pretty much everything else is marshland with various levels of water and shrubbery. Can easily make 100 yards feel like a half mile. The riverbeds are gravel/silt so sometimes you sing a bit but its way better. A four wheeler could handle the trip if I had one. Trying to get one before next year but not sure I'll get that far or not. Will definitely be trapping this hole more so I'll go prepared next time.

I had at least one bypassed my trap where I had it set on that dam. Moving my 330s out to my new spot instead for now, going to put up my 110s at those muskrat lodges. Still waiting on my extra 330s that are stuck in Troutdale to continue their journey.

Do you know if it's possible to preserve a beaver tail whole? I really like the one I got off this last beaver and I'd like to have it as a wall piece.

You’ll need to ask someone else. I haven’t preserved a beaver tail before. Why do you want it as a wall piece?

I'll take a picture of it later and show it, but the main reason is just because it has a lot of character.

The beavers are making fun of me. Watched one for close to an hour earlier while it stayed just far enough away from any retrieval point. Also looks like they broke some thin ice near the run I set in but didn't actually use the run. All the ice is rotten already so I can't walk on it anymore, but it's enough to make things inconvenient still.


Also the tail I talked about earlier.

Finally got one of the beavers that's been teasing me. Know there's more cause one chewed through a support pole of mine. Thinking of taking at least two more from this hole, maybe more if I see lots of activity, might be some bank dens around here besides the lodges.




Also just realized after pulling I forgot my setters. Glad I've got the rope at least but still slapping my forehead.

Nice job on the beaver! I found a pond that has a few beaver that need to go. They are making a mess of the area. I’ll probably leave them until the fall so I can use the meat as bait for my winter trapping.

New find is always nice. I'm definitely going to be setting first day next season. I'll definitely do the same and be using beaver carcass as bait. Next year I want to take a wolf or two for sure. Still hoping I can get a coyote before the season closes at the end of the month.

What does the wolf population look like in your area?

It exists, and that's everything I know. They mostly stay on the far side of the copper river but occasionally on year's with low food or high populations a couple will make their way to this side. I don't know if they don't like the habitat as much or if the coyote population just deters them on normal years. The moose seem to like both sides just fine.

Apparently you can also take five wolves under a hunting permit and the season is nine months so they can't be too low, though that includes all of GMU6 and most or all of area A is road less.
