Was coming home from camping last weekend and got to thinking about tidewater trapping, I know Beaverpeeler trips tidewater some. For those of you that do I had questions.

1- is it easier to set up the trapline at high or low tide?

2- are most animals caught at high tide or low tide

3- how do you keep your lures from being washed out with the tides?

4- how big are your tide swings, here I think 3-7 feet at most , I know Alaska has bigger swings.

5- does the east coast have about the same schedule of normally two highs and two lows each day? Ours varies a little some days you might get two of one and only one of the other.

Just was curious as to how people handle this. Thanks

1- set on low , check on low
2- most are caught on high water from my experience, rainy or overcast on a high tide makes for best catches
3- don’t use much lure, if you do use one with a heavy base or oil
4- 1-2 ft tide swings , higher on the moon
5- high tide comes roughly every 12 hours

( lower eastern shore md )

Like most things it depends, lol
Depending on location tide can be about 20 inches to 8 feet, high tide to low is a bit over 6 hours, so a little over 12 hours high to high, and it advances about an hour per day. if your setting by boat it's easier at high tide, walking in depends on the bottom, deep mud no bueno. For coon I set at the high tide line, with a high at night and still high enough early morning to check. Muskrats try and find runs and bank dens against higher ground. Lot of variables depending on height of tides, bottom composition, storms, access by boat or walk in.... and whether marsh land or river....really it just depends, lol

I only trap adc in tide effected ditches for beaver
You have to look at the tables. When is high,, when is low….
I use two traps or more and dig them into the bank. And make a shelf.

Joel, I like to cruise the river at about half tide. If it is full tide you can't find any spots and at complete low tide it is hard to get into the spots. I try to make my sets at what would be about 3/4 high tide. I go ahead and bait/lure just at the high tide mark. Sometimes depending on when high tide is expected I lure two spots. Always have one of the spots above the high tide mark. Catches are mostly made at half tide to full tide I think. It depends on the spot.

Nice thing about trapping tidewater is you can set those 330's anywhere you want all the way up to the high tide mark and you're legal.
