Tray More examples of your ability to capture waterfowl as they truly appear in the wild I had a co worker that was about my age He grew up hunting ducks out of a sneak boat on the Susquehanna River in PA His grandfather and his Dad and he had several hundred wooden hand made mostly by themselves Would set their decoys and than hid the boat nearby When ducks settled in with the decoys they would approach in a manner that the ducks would hold until thy where able to shoot It took a lot of skill to get you limit but the 3 of them had the experience to be quite good at it They targeted drakes only And while
they shoot what was available their preference was blue bills and what they called butte balls The father to my friend had health issues as time went on to the point he no longer hunted His grandfather had already passed I had be allowed to join them on some Sat morning trips to public sales featuring wooden hand made decoys as the father had taken up collecting decoys Some time later we took a duck finding trip during the peak of the spring migration With binos and a good spotting scope we located 23 species of water fowl A nd one place that we walked a shot way to a pond we saw a large group of Gadwall Maybe 3 dozen or more He got very got very excited and said that it was the most Gadwall he had ever seen in one flock in his life To make that possible for a green horn duck hunter to show a lifelong duck hunter some thing he had neve experienced was and still is a highlight in my time spent in the wilds And you are doing it all the time with your great observations
and fantastic pictures of ducks THANKS
Great story, thanks for sharing.
Duck hunters are so passionate about not only your hunting but also the conservation of waterfowl. Love the story’s of the old timers, guys figured out how to hunt without the wealth of knowledge thats available to hunters nowadays. Many unique methods have been developed and many have been lost as the old generation fades away.
