After borrowing a friend's ATV for most of the season last year, I vowed I'd have one this year.
Being powerfully frugal, I kept an eagle eye on for sale ads and landed on this one.
95 Polaris 425 magnum. 2,167 miles. Not showroom, but solid.
Now to get it kitted out for trapping. Its got the racks already, just need some sides, bins, etc.

looks good

a really fast tie down setup is the first thing I would be thinking with being on and off the trailer so much

never going to be unhappy about a some recovery loops down low on that frame easy to use for tie down easy to use for pulling or being pulled

then some well laid out storage for exactly how you use it.

I have looked and though about it but with the streets all being open to atv traffic a atv goes for more than an older truck around here.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I can run about 90% of my ground without trailering. Only one place a ways out that would be a haul on the ATV. May trailer it over there.

Only about half the roads here are open to atv's. Most county highways are closed, far as I have been able to figure out.

That Polaris looks solid for trapping. Sounds like you're on the right track with the racks already in place. For the bins and sides, maybe check out local shops or online for some good, durable options.

I have a 1996 that is identical to it. I have some free advice, take a look at your rear chain and sprocket for wear, the rear chain can break and wind up on the transmission output shaft sprocket and crack the transmission case. In other words, the little sprocket that drives the big one is in such a tight spot it cannot take 2 wraps of chain on it for one revolution, your rear chain needs to be in good repair. It breaks in a mud hole usually.

Second, the 1995 and 96 models were known to have cam shaft issues. The cams wore out and they become very hard to start. Keep this in mind if you ever experience a starting issue you cannot track down. I bought and installed a 1998 engine in mine when my cam went out.

Keep a good batterry all the time, mine always starts easy with a little blip of the throttle but a weak batterry doesn't spin that big one lunger fast enough to start some cold days. The recoil rope usually always does, you need to get the hang of the decompression using the rope or it will hurt ya.

I have had to fix a few things on mine, but prefer to ride it over a 4 wheel independent suspension machine hands down. Good luck with it!

If I was buying another it would probably be a Honda, 4x4 with shaft drive, auto transmission. I kept this one running for 29 years and it still runs, but I believe Honda builds a better machine

Glad to help, hope you don't need any of it and your machine runs flawlessly!

Honda is the most reliable, I've ran Arctic Cat TBX's for a lot of years, that foot longer wheelbase makes them unbelievably more stable on steep hills and the bed on the back is great for hauling stuff... but I hesitate to recommend them because with Arctic Cat going out of business I worry about parts availability.
