I read an article and a gentlemen said he painted his traps with rustoleum oil based paint and mineral spirits instead of dying and waxing traps the traditional way. He then went on to say that he waxed his traps with ZEPPS I am assuming this is a liquid type floor wax IDK. Has anyone ever done this and if so can you send a picture of the jug so I know what kind to get. Again only if you have used this technique and it works please let me know

I've used Rust-Oleum rusty metal primer and acetone mixed 50/50 with good results. I just dip it in them and hang up. Of course your traps if new must be degreased. [Linked Image]

I've never used the floor polish but know many people have

Turtledale, what color is that primer?
And Brian, I'm betting you can find some info on the floor wax in the archives. I know it's been discussed before.

100% acrylic latex paint mixed 50/50 with water works great as well.

After dipping/painting, I’ve always used FMJ as another way to keep corrosion out. If nothing else, it gives me peace of mind.

I've painted, waxed, dyed, etc.

After about 35 years I listened to guys who are better trappers than I.

Most my footholds get waxed only now (yes even my rat traps). They now blend in far better than any painted or dyed trap as well. They are faster and have a better trigger let off. (important for rat/mink traps).

I think back on all the time I wasted dying and dipping in paint or dips. Both were a waste of time in hindsight.

body grips and beaver footholds get spray painted as needed, still.

But to each their own. It's just what I found to be the best FOR ME.

Straight out of the jug. Sometimes a second coat is required buy fast and easy to do.
