Caught a beaver today and want to use the meat to make fisher bait for next December. How's the best way to keep the meat until then? Should it be salted or is it better to just freeze it?
Thanks

Use the hind 1/4s ...and cut the tail off leaving a good chunk of meat on it

Throw them in the freezer...until next season .

Then thaw them out and bait away. I've caught fisher before

With just a tail as bait .

Save the quarters of all the beaver you trap through out the year in a 5 gallon bucket in a freezer. It's a messy job but I've taken a hole beaver gutted it out and chopped the whole thing up into softball size peices with an axe and put it in a 5 gallon bucket and froze it because I needed to make sure I had enough. Thinking back a sawzall probably would have been a better tool for the job. I guess I just felt like a barbarian that day XD

Just kill a deer next fall and use the scraps. That’s pretty much all I use.
You’re wanting to work too hard for fisher bait in my opinion, they’re easy to catch.

Maybe in just say that because bears are problems in my yard if we’ve got spring beaver for bear bait laying around in a shed or outside freezer.

I know someone who caught fisher on hot dogs. You’re absolutely correct about them.

I’ve seen fisher caught with a piece of deer hide to their own carcasses ,easier to catch than coon .And either fresh or rotten .

Trapper Art, always said slice an apple in half and throw it in the back of a set. It works. I have caught several up in my orchard.

I've caught them on 6 or 7 different types of meat from moles to beaver. Also caught two on strawberry sugar wafers that I use for skunks. About the easiest animal there is to catch.
