With that rounded head I would say old timers used to use it for sheetrock. The blade was used to score it.

Boot and shoe makers and shoe repairing hammer has those round large heads. I got some from grandfather who built boots and repaired shoes.
I'd say a wood shingle/shake hammer.

That notch is for pulling nails. Looked like a shingle hatchet/hammer to me. For cedar shakes. Hatchet to split the wood shingles to fit on ends of runs. Hammer for the nails. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I'm guessing they were origianally shingle hammers that were then adopted by sheet-rockers. Gypsum board is a fairly recent invention. Yes Indeed doubt theres many who use hammers on drywall anymore

This is actually a two in one pig castrater. The hammer looking part is used as a local anesthesia device and the other end is the rapid removal device.
Sheesh, even Stevie Wonder could see that! Noice!

Drywall hammer. Roofing hatchets have a heavier head and a longer, thinner blade. And usually a "height" gauge on it. The blade on this hammer is used for leverage to lift the bottom sheet off the floor. This is correct. These types of drywall hammers may have been used by roofers but they are specifically designed for installation of the old style gypsum board of the 40's and 50's.

I believe it's originally a box hatchet but also used for wood lath / drywall. Depending on where you live and what's available! Pre Amazon...LOL

Heck I didn't know Mr Rogers was a sheetrocker! Nowdays Mexicans come stock the house one day and hang the whole house the next day, finish it the next. I love Mexicans the more I see them. Great mechanics and body repairs too.

I remember the times when there were 5 guys waiting for you to screw up and take your job! That was a lifetime ago! The union halls were empty. I worked on concrete bridges on the I5 in California.
I hope the handouts are coming to an end and hunger drives the workers again!

I hope the handouts are coming to an end and hunger drives the workers again! They still won't work. They'll burn Teslas, buildings, and police cars.
