My friend had drilling company, he used peach branches.

Guy who showed me used welding rods, better quality metal. I've done it on buried lines. I didn't think much of it, until i did it myself.

For me I count how many times the rods cross after I find water, if they cross 10 times for example it's x 10 so 100 ft to water. Then the rods will go straight Then start crossing again, I count how many times they cross again and that tells me how many gallons
I know sounds crazy but I'm pretty accurate

I witched one about a month ago, i missed the depth buy 10 ft and gpm by 2 gpm. They ended up with 37 gpm instead of 35

My father used a y shaped limb from an apple tree and could find water.

water company guy had plastic handle with metal stick that turned on the handle very easily and a magnet on the end of metal part when he came out to mark my line. he let me try it and it always turned at the same place across the yard and the line was where it was marked when I dug.

so I know it works and is not just some old wives tail stuff.

Theres an old video on youtube, a guy trys to find water hidden under crates with witching....dont think he found any.

It’s pretty cool. Never believed it until I tried with a communication cable where we had to set a pole way out in Timbucktoo. We had a couple hours to kill while waiting for the MTS guy to show up so we fooled around a bit. A tiny strand of copper about a foot long bent in a 90 about 1/3 the length held really loosely in each hand. When the locator clipped on we were pretty much right on it.

Have seen it fail just as many times as I've seen it work. Had a friend that swore by it and another that swore at it.
