Since beaver are on the move this time of year and I hear guys talking about setting every bridge that has creek/river.how long do you leave your traps there if there isn't any sign.

I never would have set there without any sign.

Where I live you need some kind of sign or your pretty much wasting your time. Trapping is different everywhere

X2, only exception for me is 3 creeks that run into a municipal water reservoir. No beaver sign but I put 2 mud pie sets on each creek and pick up traveling 2-year-olds going into the reservoir.

I agree with others. Setting without any sign is a low reward game.

I and others I know catch a lot of beaver this time of year by just bridge hopping. I pay little to no attention to sign and just slap together a castor mound and hang a snare on the approach.

I usually move em after the water drops or a couple weeks. I’ve had floats in culverts that finally connected in late May.
It’s still frozen here, but once the spring thaw is full on we’ll catch beaver where there is none. The creek at our shack has yearly produced spring beaver right up to the end of May, average one a week there. We leave them there and just adjust as the waters fluctuate.

I try to have sets ready in moving water before the ponds and lakes open up. Always a few to be caught early but when the ice is off the lakes, it will be game on until season ends in May.
