Nessy, if I was close enough to commute, I'd pay for a cake like that . That is pahfect. Like the pinstriping too. Dave, that song is always so nice. A good choice. Kevin, that is the neatest photo. I was riding horses like that at her age. The faster I could make them go, the better. My folks bred the best Quarter performance horses in the country at that time. That nice photo reminds me of mine. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/03/full-20139-252098-full_20139_87700_lil_racer.jpg) Again, many thanks to all. Life is good. Happy birthday! Your pics almost teared me up a bit. Had a couple of my six daughters show horses. Not quarter but for show. Never cared for them. To be honest the majestic beasts were scary to me (so powerful). Had one roll and break my oldest daughters arm. She was heading to the hospital asking my wife/ her mother to tell me it was her fault. So much love for that animal! You as a younger self had a good grip on saddle horn! Happy birthday strong girl/woman!

Tthomas, thank you for your stories of your daughters.
I've shown not just Quarter horse shows, but giant warm blood hunter jumpers . Dressage , cross-country, arena and endurance Spanish Arabians.
The most beautiful horses I've ever known, never recognized their owners, but loved the one who respected and loved them, worked with them day to day.
When I rode a string of top polo horses for a man on the big Island of Hawaii , I had the worst fall of my life. Your story brought this to mind. He owned among the best in the world.
Polo horses are, to me, bar none, the best athletes on earth.
It was my job to keep them in top performance shape year round. The arena was deceptive , with dry ground on top and slick wet on the bottom. I was on his best mare, strong in hand and it was my first day riding for him. She took a turn at an extreme tilt and we fell , rolling over and over with me swimming in the dirt trying to escape her from rolling on top of me. We both survived with sore bodies and bruises from my head to toes on my left side. The owner said he had fallen with her many times and so he didn't fire me on the spot. He said she was so good and aggressive that it was worth it for the events that he won because of her. Getting to know her later, I was able to avoid her recklessness , in extreme axis tilts at speed.
Like your daughter said, it was not the horse's fault. It is all in the rapport one has in communication with any animal they work with.
Running with the big dogs is serious, but when one runs with horses, you have to be discerning and very tough. You are rightly proud of your daughters.
Thank you all, for your kind words.

Sharron your story and your reflection after the fact remind me of Monty Robert's taking a lot of flack for explaining (in the horse worlds eyes defending) a race horse who had gotten rough with his groomer. You should know I have always loved the way the man explains horses.
Anyway hid premise was that you cannot breed a line of athletes for your entire life with no regard what so ever for disposition, then condemn the end product which is an extreme athlete that could (if not handled perfectly) a little rank to handle. Instead a breeder needs to accept responsibility for his own creation.5
It sounds like that mare was probably bred for a single purpose, knew no other could keep up with her, and pushed it a little to far every once in a while. I'm glad you didnt break your neck and could tell us all about her.

Hoss, you are right. I like hearing Monty explain those things too. In that fall, I should have broken at least one bone, but I didn't. Just bruised from head to toe for a while.
On the bright side, the older one gets, the higher cautionary thinking ahead prevails . Years ago, I realized that I've paid my dues as a trainer and long ago stopped tackling anything that poses a hazard needlessly. I still love speed and energy, but I have for years , seen the line that becomes dangerous vs simply having controlled energy.
Thanks, everyone.
Kip, thank you, turkeys are gonna ramp up soon in displays !
