So, on Monday night one of our horses, Champion, died. He was our first horse, the one that my sisters chipped in and bought for $150. Anyway, while they were taking him out of the pasture, I saw something run by the barn. I thought it was one of my sisters. Then Eva (my oldest sister) said that we were missing 3 chickens. She found one of them, with a head missing. She found 2 other spots with feathers. So we had 3 chickens eaten (or partially eaten anyway) by some kind of varmint. In the morning the one that Eva had found dead was gone. I took my shotgun and loaded it with #2 shot and investigated all of the holes and dens on the property. I figured that the varmint had taken the chickens to their den. I didn't find any more feathers on the property, but I did find the same chicken that Eva had found the other night. It was about 80 yards or so away from the chicken coop. I remembered there were a bunch of dens in our neighbor's woods, so I hiked over there and looked around. I found a single chicken feather, but I couldn't find any dens with chicken feathers around them. So I went back up to the house. Anyway, I set two 1.75 coilsprings side by side under the chicken coop, and put the dead chicken next to it. I also put a whole dead squirrel there too. I wired one of em off to some pallets, and the other one to the chicken coop. (It was legal to put the traps so close to the bait because it wasn't visible from above.) So anyway, that was last night. This morning Mom said "look at Heidi." Heidi is our goat. She was running around and looking at the chicken coop. We couldn't see anything but by the way Heidi was acting it seemed like I had something in my traps. So I grabbed a .22 and ran out there. Sure enough, as I got closer, I could see a fox. I had caught it with both traps. Both were very deep catches. I was so excited. My sisters came out and took some pictures, and then I shot it. No more chickens for you Mr Fox!

Thank you y'all! It's legal. In Wisconsin you can trap em year round on your own property.
