Does anyone have a good solution to keeping birds out from behind shutters? I have seen some things that haven't worked. Foam, netting, spikes, screen, and deterrents., none which worked.

I have been using Xcluder stuffed as tight as I can behind them and thought it looked good and was a doable solution. One particular house I was called back to last year about 4 months later and now again. These English Sparrows are persistent and are able to pick at it repeatedly until it gets real fine and they get in.

Only other thing I can think of is scribing aluminum and fastening to the shutter. This method would be tedious and costly. Probably wouldn't sell many. These are very common calls with thin stone veneer and birds behind the shutters.

Has anyone tried that method or have a better way of doing it? Thank you.

Are they real shutters or the plastic crap? I don't think I've ever seen birds behind shutters before. Bats all the time though.

I haven’t seen it either. What is the house siding made of?

It's a stone veneer front. There are lots of developments around here with them.

The irregularity of the veneer stone can allow some wrens and sparrows to get behind in the joint areas. Typically we see many bat problems. Our bird calls behind shutters are minimal but do occur. We got some wedge black foam that we stuff behind the shutters in a recessed position. They are solid pieces of black foam that in your case would need to be individually fitted to secure and ensure a snug fit. I don't remember where we got them for sure. They are dense foam. We haven't had any breaches as of yet.

BTX? We recently switched from using that to a foam/spongy gutter guard.

You may be able to remove the shutter and fit wood in behind it. If you can remove enough space that nests don’t fit anymore, the birds won’t nest there. If you do this, recommend putting new shutters it’d be a lot of work to do for old, faded shutters. Maybe even price it out cheaper to use new as it’d save a lot of time being able to fit the wood at the shop.

Are you talking that material WCS sells for corrugated roofing exclusion?

I believe that is the material that we have used.

This may work around the perimeter of the shutter. It’s pricey so charge accordingly.

That looks nice, would still need some scribing. It doesn't have dimensions or price.

You have to create a contractor profile to view prices and order

The best way to solve this problem is scribing metal to fit tight along the stone. Using open cell foam like B3X will only detract from the quality of your life, as sparrows will work at it until they breech it. You will also need to remove nesting materials and clean it to remove pheromones with dissolve-it and a 10% bleach solution.

Scribing or remove the shutter, in my opinion.
