My ankle has healed up enough to get out for the last two weeks of beaver and muskrat. I’m going with mostly 330 floats so I don’t have to get in and out of the boat. Thought I’d try a few 110 floats for rats along with a bunch of Hagz brackets on fiberglass rods. I know rats aren’t worth a lot but I’ll be out there chasing beaver and I like muskrat slightly tainted as a coyote bait.

Have incidental waterfowl been a problem for 110 floats? I cover my foot trap floats to keep them out but have never tried 110 floats. Any thoughts are welcome.

Are you baiting the triggers? If not, I don't see that 110s on floats would be a waterfowl problem.

No not baiting the trigger.

Try baited 110's under water on those fiberglass rods. They work here in PA set along outside edges of cattail or vegetation growth. Apple or potato slices on the triggers is all you need

I plan to try just that if and when I get into that type of habitat. In my local area it’s all rocky river and stream banks. Rats are there, not in great abundance, feeding on other sources. The sloughs are all willow and grasses and water depths can vary a couple feet between checks. So floats are a more viable option.

I have a lot of 110s and thought perhaps they might work to exclude waterfowl from my floats without having to put wire over them like I do for my foot trap floats. I’ve never tried 110s on floats before. I’ll have to admit, though I’ve been trapping since I was 10 (that was 1969), I haven’t targets rats in any big way since 1979. My focus has always been coyotes and beaver. Everywhere I’ve lived, other than where I grew up in northern NY, I haven’t had rats in great abundance.

It’s too late this season to get serious about rats but am thinking forward to next season. There are some areas I could go with the camper and spend a couple weeks in good rat county.

You can also hang or mount baited 110's under floats depending on the situation. Good luck trapping!

If your 110's are exposed can build a cover out of chicken wire to keep waterfowl put

That’s exactly what I do with my foot trap floats.
