A friend of mine is asking me what I think about the 2018 Scandic 550cc WT, he's considering buying one. I have no experience with that model.
Anyone have any comments?

They are good solid sleds, great chassis. The 550 gets horrible fuel mileage but has decent power and reliability.

I have had several sleds with 550 and they always got me home. The newer 4 strokes always had me worried though!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

If you pack enough gas the 550 will get you home. Problem is packing enough gas. They are unbelievably thirsty! I've had excellent luck with the skidoo four strokes. Had a lot of issues with an Arctic Cat four stroke, but not with the motor, just with everything else.

Some guys have had problems with the fuel sock on the new skidoo four strokes, seems likely mostly in northern Canada and Alaska, I don't know if that is a difference in fuel available or what. I've over 7000 on mine, running 87 octane without issues. I believe the fuel injected two strokes also have that fuel sock but I'm not positive on that. Great chassis and machine, with the caveat that he needs to know how to drive a skidoo, they are tippy. If he is used to Tundras he won't have an issue, if he hasn't rode snowmachines or only Arctic cats or Polaris, there is going to a learning curve, likely with some time spent track up. The two speed transmission is a game changer, no more smoking belts and you can put around through tight places in low and lug it down and crawl up on top instead of having to give it the throttle to go and digging a hole.

Thanks guys. My friend and I drove 12 hours yesterday and picked it up. The plastic is a little rough but everything else looks great, slides, track, skis, carbides, no belly pan damage or other signs it's been wrecked, runs great, etc.. Got it for $1200...and even got a title.

Can’t go wrong for $1200. Amazes me what people will part with when times get hard. I traded a cord of spruce for a bearcat not too long ago
