Nice job! With all the scare about the Bird Flu you can get some ridiculous prices for hens. $40 is impressive.

This isn’t a jerk question but why do people own goats? Meat, milk or pets?

Ashley, My wife has goats, they are great pasture cleaners. Eat lots of things my cattle and horses don’t. They are mostly pets for she and my daughter, but they do sell some for slaughter. Eric

I have mine primarily for milk. One is the wife's pet, and I sell the bucklings for meat. Wife won't let me butcher any.

I have a friend down the road that has them for pets.
I know another guy that raises them for meat. He says every one he sells at a local livestock auction sells for top dollar. He's been expanding every year.
Can't remember which ethnic group buys them all. I'll ask him next time I see him. He says the supply in our neck of the woods can't keep up with the demand. He's doing very well financially

People own goats because they need extra problems
Daughter wanted one when she was little and we ended up with nearly 50
They are the only farm animals I have owned that required constant care. Parasite magnets, always doing dumb stuff and masters of escape.

I have copper marans. I'm going to get some hatching eggs for maran crosses..blue and copper In few days.

I don't care about pedigree..although pure bred brought more but I just wanna add em to my flock.
