Crunch the pelts in the box as tight as possible. Dimensional weight is a killer on light weight furs.

I know you’ve spent a lot of time making the fur look good for the buyer. Don’t worry - Rusty and his crew will give them a couple of shakes when they put them on the tables and they will look as good as new.

I was told buy my previous buyer (after the $50.00 Tubari fiasco) to fold them in half and jam them in. He said it wouldn't hurt them because they were being tanned. IDK if I'd be comfortable doing that shipping to a fur auction. We never did it with the NAFA bags.

I’ve shipped a lot of raw fur and I’ve been involved with trappers auctions for many years. The trappers auctions I’ve worked at, other trappers are unpacking and handling your pelts. They tend to treat them like their own. Presenting them as best possible.

If the pelts are properly groomed before they go in a box, a few brisk shakes as they are unpacked and they look as good as new.

Save yourself some money and pack as tight as possible. Your pelts will be fine!!!

Not sure about the eastern. I'm sure Rusty could fill you in.

This might be your best bet. I was going to suggest FHA since there appears to be growing interest in Red Fox, but this sale has done exceptionally well for a couple years now.

Rusty did get a hold of me and explain the process. I decided shipping, joining the Idaho Trappers Association and the commission would’ve really cut into anything I might’ve made on the skins, especially shipping.

Also, having a major surgery at the end of February really cut into my time to find a better market for my furs.

So off they went to my local FHA agent this morning and will be on their way to Ontario for the May sale.

My fox grade as centrals so I’m hoping for a $10 or $11 average.

Is that agent from the Hamburg area? He looks familiar.

Great advice nyrat, thanks. $19.00 per dozen-plus? That shipping rate doesn’t bad at all.

My FHA agent was telling me this morning that he sold some at our PTA District 11 sale in early January. He said there are quite a few craft buyers there and he averaged almost $15 on his reds.

Now that I know my long-time Colorado buyer is likely no longer interested in my furs. I will have my ducks in a row prior to next season.

My buddy just shipped coyotes/red fox and curled them up in a box like postage stamps. 33 lbs. For $40 w/pirate ship. UPS wanted $62.

More good advice, thanks Mike. Shipping was killing me and the Colorado buyer. I was shipping them to Tubari then they were shipping to him after tanning.

I was going to contact your guy in NY but heart surgery shut me down for a while. That might be an option for next year.

Two years ago, I shipped a bunch of fur to ID and UPS wanted $89/box. Pirate ship was $43/box. The savings makes all the difference when shipping fur.

I don’t know how accurate an estimate he could give me without seeing my furs Snowpa. At any rate, it’s a done deal, I dropped them all off at my FHA agent this morning.

Good luck with getting any numbers on the phone.. Maybe give you a top which doesn’t give you an average.
