My coyote ground is best accessed by ATV/UTV. I currently have an Arctic Cat 650 TRV I bought new in 2007. It’s been an awesome machine and has great ground clearance. I have it set up with the box option on the back. It has worked exceptionally well for a trapping rig.

The only drawback is that I cannot take anyone with me. By next season I may need to take my wife with me each check day. It depends on how her condition progresses. She can wait in the truck while I run traps but I’d like to take her along as well as have the ability to take others with me on occasion.

I’ve had the chance to ride over some rough ground in a Polaris Ranger and am underwhelmed with its ground clearance.

My question is, which of the currently available, new or used, UTVs has the best ground clearance coupled with a good sized truck box on the back?

Probably a Polaris ranger XP. The larger tires should give it greater ground clearance then standard versions.

Honda Pioneer 1000 has either 12.3" or 12.6" depending on the exact model.

The Polaris 570 full size has 10.5" and the Ranger XP has 14"

Kawasaki Ridge UTV has either 14" or 14.5" depending on the tires selected

Can Am offers 11", 13" or 17" depending on Model and Trim

Marty, I have a Polaris 500 that I put a lift kit on. The lift kit I used is simple to install and made in America and does not void a warranty. If you are interested let me know and I’ll look the guy up. Eric

Thank you sir. I would be very interested. The Rangers seem to be most frequently seen on the used market. A gentleman in our small town has one he’s thinking about selling.

There's a thing as too much clearance that messes with your center of gravity. You'll feel it on steep slopes with trails on the diagonal with switchbacks. Keep that in mind, especially if you are loading it up with gear like spares, chains, tools, and any other heavy stuff

And remember, most of them are fully independent suspension. They may have a tremendous amount of clearance empty, but depending on how stout the springs are, depends on how much you can load on it before they lose all that clearance. Most of them will really squat until you have no clearance when loaded. Something I'm sure you noticed with your Arctic Cat atv. The other thing to remember, is just the numbers of the ground clearance isn't the only thing, the longer the wheelbase the more they will high center when going over kelly humps and what not.

I run an Arctic Cat TBX, similar to your TRV, same wheelbase and ground clearance, and the first thing I do when I buy I new one is turn the suspension as stiff as it will go. I think most of the side by sides also have adjustable suspension, for your use I would strongly consider turning it up as far as you can.

You’re very welcome. If you would like some pics I can take some of my setup after I clean it up. Eric
