I took the family to the Astros/Mets game last night. The wife surprised me and pre-paid to
park about 50ft from the front door. To park that close they go around your car/truck with a bomb sniffing dog . As the officer rounded the back of my truck I told my wife to watch close. I’ve had 30+ coyotes and lots of nice skunky bait, lure and urine on the tailgate in the past month. He definitely perked up and the office walked him by twice but he didn’t give the “sign” but you could definitely tell he didn’t like the smell of coyotes. I got a good laugh from it.

Well trained. I'm impressed.

It's a good thing he didn't do much more than flinch, it could have been a rough start to your date night

That dog was probably thinking, “Something ain’t right here.” Guess coyote scent isn’t exactly bomb material, but it sure raises some eyebrows.

Surprised it didn't try to pee on your truck.

That’s funny! I always wondered if anyone ever got pulled over while having their trapping lures in their vehicle and the officer wanted to search them for weed

Sent some coyote tails to WA that got snatched by the post office they kept them for 30 days before they called me I asked if a dog hit on the and was that what started it. The postal inspector said no it was an employee I had to shake my head at that.

Proper trained dog with knowledgeable handler. Dog might show smells something different. But not going to fiddle around pee your wheel. I've had more than one trained cadaver dogs around my truck. My new truck isn't as stunk up as my old truck was. Its had more than few dead critters in it. Some of the cadaver dogs ive seen. Would walk over dead deer find the tip of you finger you cut off gutting it.
Its really no different that if you have your coon dog broke to not run possum. When I was doing a lot of pheasant hunting in Iowa. I could tell when my lab saw trailing rabbit in stead of birds.
Been probably 20 years or more ago now. When big debate here on Tman about the Dip, Dye, Wax thing. Should you use regular gas or colmen fuel for dip? I had a guy run his arson dog over bunch of coated traps. Was alway going to write up the result of that test. Then decided wasn't worth it. Lot people back then and even now think dogs are a joke.
My conclusion is not so much the dog more about trainer/handlers.
