My wife has become close with a woman who was her first grade teacher. Jackie never married or had children and all her family has passed. She comes over about once a week and I make them dinner as they talk about plans to do things (they are traveling to the United Kingdom together in June). Rachel has also been driving her to some doctors appointments. Jackie is more than capable of driving on her own but recently has gotten some serious news. Rachel pretends to be her niece and goes to the consultations for moral support and to make sure the right questions are asked and answered. She is a blast to be around and really loves the home cooked meals. She has asked to invite a friend (Sheryl), who is also going on the trip, to our next dinner. Nice to be appreciated in the kitchen! lol

Anyway for the strange request. The ladies were talking about handsome actors one night. Hugh Jackman's name came up. My wife told Jackie I was a huge comic book geek as a kid. Jackie named several actors that are going to be at this summers Detroit comic book convention. She collects autographs and asked us to take her to the convention to get some. Never saw that coming! Of course we are taking her. Invited my geeky oldest daughter and son in law along. They may even dress up. I am buying the tickets tonight.

My 96 year old great grandfather has requested that as long as he is able that we allow him to shovel his own driveway. So at 96 he is still out there shoveling snow chipping ice! Amazing!!

Thats great.
I would caution you to have someone out there with him to assess his abilities.

My Dad who was in upper '80's was the same. He slipped and fell. Hurt his ankle and couldn't get up to get back to the house.
He had to crawl up the driveway and into the house. He never went to the Dr.. He had a limp ever since that and was never able to walk much more than 30-40 ft after that.
Stubborn old German.

Comic books used to be the in thing as there wasn't much else for kids, such as electronics, so I'm not too surprised.
