I recently acquired a J Watkins single long spring #7, I would welcome any information on this trap.

A picture(s) helps the experts on here determine the information on the trap.

John Watkins made his traps in Boston in the mid 1800s. Your #7 is missing a spring and the chain is not correct- it should be a long link chain with a small forged ring. The pan looks to be either replaced or modified, all I have seen and own have a square pan. They're nice traps and fairly hard to come by. Watkins did make a few single longsprings but they were smaller sizes.

Below is a correct example showing the pan and chain. The period drag on this one was not a standard add.

Thank you! Could you give me any idea of a value with the missing pieces and alterations?

I don't try to assess values outside of quoting The Trap Collectors Guide which only lists Watkins traps in complete, excellent condition in a range of $150-500. With Ebay trap prices these days, there's no telling. Yours does have some value as is, probably to someone looking to do a restoration.
