If folks can’t stomach seeing stocks decline,,,,,,
They shouldn’t be involved in stocks,,,,,there are other options
It’s mentally not healthy for them Losing while gambling shouldn't bother one unless the dealer is dealing off the bottom of a stacked deck. Most of the public have no idea what they are doing, but if the public didn't play where would the new money come from ?

Looks like another good day for short positions. Burn baby burn!!
This correction should have happened a year or so ago but 2024 was propped up by lots of political favors and lots and lots of sucker money ("you mean the stock market actually goes down...???). I guess some people think that all time highs are just normal...

just bought 10 dozen duke traps before the big price hike You wouldn’t rather support your country by buying good American traps and have American steel to lay in the ground?

The market will go up and down. Always has, always will.
One of the problems with this country is we want it NOW. As trappers, if anyone knows we will, China plays the long game. Multiple year plans. The long game.
Remember when China was seen as just a cheap labor country that was no threat to us. Look at China now. They are playing the long game.
We have to play the long game. No way around it. I never thought I would worry about China but here we are. They are gaining and we are losing. When we toughen up and play hardball, even if it means some temporary pain for us, we start getting ahead again.
I like being the big dog on the hill. And that is the position from which we should want to always be. I am ok with being fair to a point. But when it isn't fair and I allow it to continue, the other dog will eventually be on the hill.
The world is ruled by brute strength and money. I am 100% ok with having the best and the most.
How many lies will people believe before they realize their own idiocy?

Who says strategies are not being used but for many there are losses that will not be recovered. The market also impacts things like pensions and other funds used for living costs. For those that were say 55 in 2000 investing in fixed funds for the next 20 years would have seen their actual investments losing value even with 2% inflation.
Bryce How long does it usually take for a downed market to turn around? That should be in someone's mind when they get within 5 years of retirement and know where they will put some money before that happens. I can see how some people would be caught off guard by this. I mean Trump only gave you 4 years notice. If you see a tornado coming it's always wise to take shelter before it gets there. Ol dad

Most the public has internet and a smart phone, so they have all they need to learn. There's a wealth of knowledge all in the palm of their hand.

I can remember when little George Bush was promoting for people to put their social security money in the stock market. It didn't fly because of exactly what we are seeing right now. It can't be looked on as a secure retirement for old age and if was meant to be just for speculation, then why wouldn't there be a long for every short? Its designed for bringing in the public and their money into the store house. The old verbiage "the bulls and bears both make money and the pigs get eaten" is a reality! Do you consider it speculation when you get ready for work in the morning? They may shut it down, you may get in a wreck and die. Nothing is a sure thing. But we all evaluate the risk vs reward in every thing we do. They cam all be mitigated somewhat. Myself I would rather have control of say my Ss money paid in and have it in an acount like a roth and put it in the market. I would need zero other retirement savings .if that had been done for my work life instead of going into the government theft slush fund.

I don't know how some of you Mary Ann's can handle the ups and downs of the markets
This down in the market is the result of deliberate and stupid political decisions, gold bug. Not market factors. Did you ever consider the up market was the result of the same factors ie QE and uncontrolled money creation? I don't take gold bug as an insult. Try harder. Not that it's any of your business, it's less than 10 percent of my holdings It wasn't hard to tell this was coming. If an investor was worried he could have pulled a buffet and went way long cash.

Do you really think the 70 times dividend was going to last in an over valued market.? Let's see, A dow hovering around 40,000 ? Not long ago if people thought it was going that high they would have peed themselves. What caused the fall in 2022? WHY did it go back up? Biden is the answer to the first. Government spending is the answer to the second . Had nothing to do with companies bottom lines. Dems handed out money like Halloween candy and it found its way into the stock market . Plain and simple........

I could have done better putting my ss money in CDs
If I could have put that money in the markets the last 30 years I would have been able to lose half the value and been better off

Definitely an interesting time to be in the market. I am surprised we are not getting more input from 17 and 49er. Really ain't much to say. Just more government intervention in the markets only difference is this time they're not flooding it with cash. Price of oil is down. Maybe we'll see some pipeline companies on sale And I agree with you. The path we our on isn't sustainable

The average working guy with 3 kids don't have the time from his making a living to become a market guru. So maybe he could get hooked up with the likes of Bernie Madoff and switch from the government slush fund to a good ponzi scheme, lol. Actually the SS is a ponzi scheme dependent on future participants, lol.
