Ok gang,, I’ve got a double longspring, which I believe is a #4 bridger jaw spread looks to be about 6 inches,, just guessing because I didn’t officially measure it.

I’ve had a few of these for a few years and forgot I even had them,, I put the paws I trip pan on them because I was intending to use them for coyote..
I’m turning my attention to using them for beaver..
should I leave the smaller paws I trip or would I be risking more toenail catches if I put an expanded pan on them? [Linked Image]

It would increase your target area ,,,,
I would,,,
I run oversized pans in AZ on the Navaho land.
Different soil conditions,,….

90% of the people here will tell you that small pans are better for beaver
LT Grey and a few others might argue that though

Looks big enough to me. I would not want a bigger pan than that for beaver.

My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

I’m a small pan kinda guy. Beaver or wolf……not much for coyote the last few years.

I'm of the small pan mindset.

Larger pans absolutely increase the target area BUT at the risk of it getting tripped by off centered pad placement along the pan edge potentially resulting in flipped feet and/or toe catches. Centered placement works regardless of pan size and well centered almost always is a good high catch.

And with a beavers big back foot an edge of pan trip by a toe leaves alot of foot outside the jaws, especially when using small traps.
