Hi all. I’m looking to standardize all my 120’s for marten and mink. I really like the design of LDL 120 magnums but see that the Sauvageau have much bigger springs. Not sure if that’s correct but I thought I’d put it up here to get people opinions. Mainly be used for boxes and leaning poles.

Although they are very nice traps, some of the best made, I don't care for them. I have couple of each. But I don't like how STRONG they are. Marten don't need a very strong body grip 120 trap. If I were trapping around Fisher then I think both of them would be great traps. But I don't have any in Northern Alaska. About any light 120 after these two will work just as well, are easier to set, cost less. I cut the chains off and use a toggle screwed to the tree. I take the traps with catches home and switch out the traps with a toggle, takes seconds. That might help you even if you use bigger traps. I am not sold on the Sauvageau pitchfork trigger. Too much of a trigger for me, too big, covers too much, can punch holes in the Marten sometimes with 4 wires sticking down. Good luck with whatever you use! I figured you would have 20 posts about this by now.

My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

While there are a lot of Belisle fans in the lower 48, the LDL and Sauvageau seem to be pretty much a Canadian and Alaska trap, I've never seen either or a Rudy bodygrip, myself. I do agree with Super Wide, most of the newer 120s are way more powerful than necessary for marten or mink. But I can't comment on the two you mention other than to explain why you don't have a bunch of posts on them already.

There’s a 6 page discussion on the Canadian site on this. I just stick with Belisle.

Yeah I like the stronger spring idea for fisher and for the occasional otter that has gotten into my mink sets…. Always exciting.. guess I’ll check out the Canadian site. I do agree that those pitchfork triggers seem like way too much going on. I prefer pans or the classic V.

Its title is about Rudy traps but quickly evolved into LDL comparison. You’ve got two very experienced trappers saying the opposite of each other. I’ve never used them, but apparently the LDL has to be used properly due to the weird trigger. Way too strong for marten too. $100 pelts turned into $40 pelts…lol

Haha very interesting. I’ve caught plenty in 330 cubbies and never found them ruined.. gotta love everyone’s brand commitment sometimes. Maybe I’ll just order a few of each to try. Was hoping to make a choice before cause the shipping is brutal from FHA shop to AK

I have a hard time thinking the springs are really that much stronger. Plenty of people using 160’s and such
