Gotta love hunting the South, lol. This ole boy slipped up on me on a hunt this afternoon. I’m used to rat snakes and black racers, but looking over your shoulder and seeing this gets the ole heart pumping!

Not sure why those cottonmouths in your area are out on the "hill" so much. It's gotta be due to them being after prey....field mice/rats, quail?

It is not common to see one away from water down here.

We ain’t got em up here.
Doesn’t break my heart none.
I’ve seen several in Swampwolfs country in my years of turkey chasing down yonder.
Dang near stepped on one hustling to a gobbling bird in the dim light one morning. If he hadn’t of flashed that white mouth I would have stepped in the middle of him.
They aren’t a pleasant varmint lol.

It is not common to see one away from water down here.

Not common to see them around water over here, something about the pine plantations they love. Think Tall Timbers did a study of cottonmouths and quail mortality.

Yikes!!! I don’t hate snakes but it sure is unnerving coming across one.
We stumbled across this little character this weekend hoping to find a few early morels
