Some of those narrow creeks might only be a few feet wide but some are deeper than you might think.

Ours are opening up too but the ground is still frozen.

I checked the ice on the beaver dam below my cabin this morning, still over 2’. April is a tough go around here, it’s warm enough that everything is thawing, but it’s a slow process. The last week or April, first week of may is when the sun really starts doing its job

That’s for sure the one on our old place could easily be jumped across without any effort but I once stuck a 10 foot pole into it and still didn’t touch bottom

One of the ponds I trap muskrats has no true bottom.You have to stay in your canoe.No wading.

Lot of the Muck Farms I trap are like that.You can see "bottom" two feet down,,,but if you get out,your going up to your neck in Muck.

I call 'em marsh creeks here. Muskrat, mink and otter highways. Set 'em up bottom edge style and sharpen your knives.
