Did you thin it some more after the pickle?
I’m going to try a couple little guys that aren’t worth sending to auction.

I tried. Put it back on the beam and took Lee’s “murder knife” to it!!!! Tried to take off some meat and stuff around the face.

All done. This was much more labor intense than the little muskrats. Part of me thinks it is because I did a bad job of removing the saddle and had to work harder to get it thinned after the fact. Behind the neck didn’t seem to want to dry. But he’s a nice big raccoon and I got a lot of elbow grease In the whole process. He’s tumbling in the dryer now in a bag of sawdust

I am lazy. Sent some fur to Moyles. Easier to earn the money and pay them than do it at home.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I know but I kinda like it. Maybe one day if I make a pair of mittens or a hat it’ll be really cool to say I caught it, tanned it, and created it all myself

I’ll tell you I’m not really sure. I broke the hides over a rebar quite a few times. Paying attention especially around the parts that are hardest to turn like the head and neck. Put it over the beam with the fleshing knife. I got stuff off that looked like old chewing gum on pavement.

Thank you much! I can’t keep my hands off it. Great feeling of accomplishment and education

I did a raccoon and a badger. Not an easy job breaking them. The badger was the worst. Did a lot more thinning on him. Both turned out but still not as soft as factory tan. You did a good job by the looks of it. The holes sew up easy.
