Using. Today I drove down th the Amish small engine saw shop to pick up som bar oil and 2 cycle mix. On the way there I saw a girl driving WHT I thought was a small wagon around her yard with a small pony or mini horse.

On the way back she was up by the road and what she was driving was a ground driven mower with the blades that turn I think they call the walk behind pus typ a real mower but this looked about 5 feet wide but not only that it had 3 sets of blades like that and she was mowing about 15' maybe it was smaller so 12' I was driving so didn't get the best look. I had never seen anything like it and thought it was neat.

It was probably a large rotary mower. I've seen Amish use rotary bar mowers, instead of sickle bar mowers, to cut hay sometimes.

They make gangs of those reel mowers, similar to a golf course mower. Most of them I have seen are about six feet wide. They are usually pulled by one or two (mostly one) ponies. Work really good and I think more sensible than a gas powered mower for large areas.

There's an Amish cabinet maker here that has every tool in his shop converted to hydraulics, powered by a gas engine outside

Amish community rules differ depending on the local Bishop. I know one that pushes a button and starts his Natural Gas fired Generator each morning. Wire welders, overhead lights, powder coat booth, exhaust fans, 10’ metal shear all spring to life.

His skid steer is run remotely not much differently then a radio controlled car. Family Buggy has brake lights and blinkers.

The local Amish dug there basement with a horse and a tumble bug. They tape about a 6” piece of 2” plastic pipe to the spoke evidently that supposed to catch your eye so you don’t run them over in the dark !

I was in the courthouse years ago a male Hoot came in with a group of young women that went to the DMV some cuties in group. I asked if they were getting DLs . He said, “ NO we don’t let them drive!” I about fell off the chair. LOL

Unless you know the ladies through their husbands they are cold to strangers they are afraid they will look like a tart in the colony, if they are friendly to men. I tell my Hoot buddy that I think his wife winked at me to get his reaction. The way they say stuff with that German accent it’s funny they are very animated just on a regular day.
