Didn't see the thread, so can't help with that, but was this at one of the trout parks, or on private land or one of the spring fed rivers?

Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

I did see the post, but I don't remember who it was.

She wore scarlet begonias, tucked into her curls. I knew right away, she was not like other girls.

I believe it was next to a state park or county park with a big river that went through it. I think providence farm guy on here wanted land that was close to it but not sure if it was him or not.

Albert Hempel has been a long member of the Missouri Trappers Association and I believe owns a farm right on the Niangua river which is below Bennet Springs Park. Not sure if this is the same or not. Trout are stocked at Bennett and are routinely caught in the Niangua. No idea about the cabins but there are lots of campgrounds around that area and cabins and even some in the state park.

I have fished Monatuak and Meremac (sp?) and caught fish. I just cannot stand the crowds. I’m not that peoply.

I would much rather wade the local streams and catch goggle eye and small mouth.

I completely agree. I grew up by roaring river state park(another Missouri trout park) and worked there in the summers and could never understand why so many people wanted to fish around all the other people for stocked fish. Go float the jacks fork or current for smallmouth and goggle eye it is much better scenery and far less people and smallmouth are more fun to catch.

Agree. Missouri's spring-fed Rivers are one of the most underutilized recreational resources in the Midwest. I am thankful for that as there are already too many drunks on it during the summer time. But it's hard to beat a day float or an overnight float on the jacks fork. If you've never done one after a 6-inch snow you're missing out. Fishing is pretty slow then but the scenery is top notch.

My wife’s family owns the land where the big and little Maries come together. I have had some wonderful days of fishing over the years. Sadly it is but a fragment of its past glory.

We still fish for catfish on the Gasconade River and it is very good. The smallmouth and goggleye can be very good to non existent.

Growing up in the northern half of Missouri - I still have never gigged a fish in my life. Living in North Dakota and Iowa - I very much missed the scenery and rivers/bluffs/hills and turkey gobbling of Missouri. Glad we had the opportunity to move back. Scenery at the trout parks is not bad, but definitely recommend going Tuesday-Thursday so you can enjoy it more. Few years, I also worked in a hatchery and I still won't eat trout or paddlefish - remind me too much of Purina #5 fish food.......

I fish down at montaulk I agree with going through the week, lot less people especially if you let the new of the season die off first. Still get great scenery, if you take off down stream its also amazing how the river changes year to year. I'm not a floater, never had been I rather walk the rivers. But I would agree the fish taste 10 better if you catch them from the river, they go from a white color to a pink color after skint I guess that's just the clean water flowing through without being fed. In the park I usually catch and release, unless I have a buddy that wants to fry some up. But definitely worth a stay down there in my opinion. If you plan on mill days you can catch a lot of vendors that do different demos. From making arrow heads by hands, to Dutch oven cooking, black smiting, all kinds of neat things. Last year also had a guy with some fur, and knives.
