Trump just signed today four Executive Orders in favor of coal mining and the use of coal reversing Biden’s anti-coal initiatives. As expected, the Green people are against it.

It may be too little, too late. It’s not like a coal powered plant can be built overnight, probably not even during his term. Lot of electric is still generated with Coal fired plants. They were targeted for shutting them down by a pre determined date in the future. Companies were tasked to of found alternative for electric production prior ! I believe the majority of MN electric is still Coal Generated despite not having any coal mines.

Any specifics on where the new mines would be located?
Interestingly, a lot of quality elk habitat is tied to coal mines in the Appalachian states. The recontouring of the strip mines provides large browsing areas as a result of the fresh disturbance. The elk populations have been slowing down given the reduction in coal mining in that region. No need for new, yet. Still alot of coal in the ground that has gone untouched due to not being cost effective to mine due to the increased costs associated with all this green new deal crap. Just got ease up on all the added costs to both mine and burn it. There was and is huge pressure on the power companies to install scrubbers on the exhaust and to better deal with the fly ash residues.

Too late. The ship has sailed. At least in Pennsylvania. I spent 37 years in the coal industry, and when I retired, I was managing 23 deep mines. I know a little about the business.
There will be no new coal burning power stations built in the US.
The majority of the existing coal burning plants were built in the 1960s, early 70s. They have about a 50 year working lifespan. Those still operating need to be totally overhauled. For some, the repair bill would be higher than the plant is worth. That’s why many have been decommissioned.
When the bids go out to electric producers to supply power to the grid, NG plants will underbid a coal burning plant.
Banks and investors have all but abandoned financing to coal burning power plants.
In April of 2017, my buddies I used to work with went to DC, to a EO signing event with Trump at the EPA building. Trump was rolling back some Clean Air laws….he said it was gonna put miners back to work. I see they got a different bunch of miners for this event….but the results will be the same. The EO in 2017 didn’t revive the coal industry….nor will this 2025 order.

Heck, I've seen in my lifetime where coalbed methane has almost become a direct competitor to coal itself when it was once pumped off to the atmosphere just to get rid of it. But I stand by the fact that's there still massive amounts of it still left in existing worked deposits. I know many mines now closed with plenty left to pull out because it couldn't be sold for more than it cost to bring it out. There's still a need for metallurgical coal if we only had a steel industry left but alot of that has been offshored.

There's still a need for metallurgical coal if we only had a steel industry left but alot of that has been offshored. Yep, it’s all about met coal now. About 25 years ago, all the coal we mined was destined to the steam market. All coal, from all our mines, went to Power Alley, as it was called. Homer City, Conemaugh, and Keystone Generating Stations. Millions of tons, every year. The largest, Homer City, just had all three units demolished last week. The biggest smoke stack was over 1200 feet high, the tallest in the US. The other two stations will close in two years, if not sooner. Not much steam coal sales nowadays. Today, all of the company’s coal production is met coal. Much of it goes to US Steel Cokeworks in Clairton, Pa. Some goes overseas, mainly to Asia. IMO, this EO and signing ceremony was meant to change the news cycle away from tariffs. There will be no lasting effects for the coal industry from it.

I live beside the main north/south CSX line. Seems like I’m seeing more coal headed south and steel going north? That's how it is in Alabama. Most of it is loaded on barges and sent down the warrior to Mobile for export.

The green people should go over to China and protest. See how that works out for them. Biden, or whoever was handling him, wanted to get away from coal fired plants and mining while China was building more plants and mining more. I guess it was OK for them, but not OK for America.

Was working out in West Cambria, Pa probably 10 years ago and was told the mines were about to shutdown then and that the Chinese were buying them up for pennies on the dollar.

Local power company is scheduled to burn Coal until 2035. Looks like about 25 thousands tons of coal per day State wide. That a lot of train cars !

Long trains carrying nothing but coal are rolling out of Wyoming to Nebraska and Kansas and points beyond. One at least every half hour all day all night. Jeffery plant in Kansas has a yuge stockpile of coal stacked up. I believe Wyoming coal is mined on the surface.
