Got some dandy Tom's this here. Last year I posted a picture of >20 jakes in one bunch at the same time. Well, most are still around and have matured nicely. I was at the ranch yesterday and called just to see if I could get some answers but nothing. After a while I see 8 Tom's and two hens feeding and all their interest are hens very little response if any. The Tom's are tight lipped and hung up on the hens here.

These pictures are from over a quarter mile away using my binoculars and cell phone for a few pictures.

Heading to WI next week to call for a buddy I hope they start talking by then the weathers looking good so far.

A few around the house have been hammering the gobbles for a couple weeks now. A couple are in the back property now, I can hear them as I am typing this in the house.

Great pics! CJ and I went this morning and heard absolutely NOTHING! Had a front move through right before daylight. Guess that rain drowned their gobbles!! We’ll give it another try this evening.
I leave for the PNW 2 weeks from today!!

We are prepared for it, but the areas we are going to look to be clear, I've been keeping an eye out, so fingers crossed.

Yesterday

Just back from a skunk call across the river seen 2 on I-90 by the river breaks dead in the middle of the interstate they must be moving . With the warmer weather the Black Hills area is starting later than the prairie units do.

GFP thinks the numbers are down but I’ve found they are nesting way later than previous years the last few years. Get close to a roost in the morning and the hens are up there into late May now. A storm hits and the birds get pushed into the open areas lots of birds coming out don’t see a shortage of birds.

The last couple years while elk hunting we seen a lot of younger birds by the roads. This year it looked like they limited the NR tags to 2,200 tags I don’t know if that was a 1X draw chance because I don’t see any in the leftover listing it’s all new to me.

Some great pictures to get fired up for the season. I think it opens here tomorrow not for sure, though.
