That is a great picture!!!

Here are a few from last year all young bucks.

They sure don’t do the same thing every morning in these parts Tracey lol
Been watching/listening to this bunch all week. Last 3 mornings they roosted in the same place. Before that they were roosting a quarter and a half away on the other side of the block of timber.
Wednesday they flew down in the woods and stayed there until I left an hour after flydown. Yesterday they flew down in the woods and marched out into the field I was hoping they would go to. This morning they pitched 150 yards through the timber into the field. We’ll be waiting on their butts in the edge of the field in the morning.

Guiding a 7 year old certainly presents its challenges lol. But he listens good and I wouldn’t want him shooting at me. I’ve reminded him enough to keep his cheek on that stock that it’s getting second nature to him lol.

Clay, I’m sure you’ve seen the research, but gobblers (Easterns) don’t necessarily roost in the same trees or area. Now a gobbler may be in that same tree or area, but it doesn’t mean it’s the one you watched. It made me feel a little better about myself on roosted birds.
One in particular I watched for 2 mornings in a row and he did the same thing both mornings. The day I could hunt I snuck in a good 1.5hrs before daylight. I figured I wouldn’t even have to call, I’d let his feet hit the ground, pop in strut and then gobble, and my hunt would be over.
The next morning that stupid bird flew the other way! The very next day I’m set up the opposite way and he flys down to where I was the day before.
After reading that research I could look back on a lot of hunts and see where this possibly happened. I can’t remember who did the study, but it was great reading!

In a way I'm glad they are so unpredictable, but it can be aggravating if you're hunting on limited time.

Haha, that’s where the saying, “Roosted ain’t roasted” came from. About the time you think you got’’em figured out they pull a 180 on you.

So no one has killed 10 turkeys a year for the last 50 years?

Not me.

I was already a changed man b4 I had access to a huntable population of wild turkeys.

I didn’t start hunting them until 2010. Started traveling that first year answering a request on Southern Duck Hunters, lol. Met a kid online that was looking for someone to go to Kansas and I bit. Been traveling every year since. With our populations low, I only shoot one in Georgia for the most part, but will limit if I can when I travel.
