Here are some "barn shots". I had end of year or half year pictures of all the fur caught from the mid 1960's to 1990 in one photo album. I had 5 other photo albums of old pictures of trapping, snake hunting and fishing. When my father was writing the book about my grandfather he asked if I had any pictures. I took the albums up to his house and as fate would have it his house burned a week later so all were lost. That was in December of 1992. These are all that are left.
First picture is from 1979. Pictured are half of the 600+ coons I snared that year. There are a few beaver as beaver were limited in NJ. Most fox were in a different pic that was burned.


This pic is from 1965 with some reds I caught in snow sets and my first NJ beaver

!958, I was 6 and am in the middle. I caught and put up all the fur pictured (my 2 cousins just showed up for the picture). Fur was stretched on wooden fox stretchers made in 1930 for silver foxes. I still have some of them. 30 skunks, only 4 coons as coon were rare around here in those days. The 22 I am holding I still have, it is a Remington pump with an aluminum barrel.

I am 10 years older than you and lived 50 south east of you. How were you dispatching the skunks so you did not stink. We had a lot of skunks and the black one were ten dollars so didn't care when we got sprayed. Our friends and parents did. Yes very few coon, one friend got 13 and that was big news. Had lots of rats around the airport then.....jk

Head shot the skunks as a 22 hole in the chest was a no-no back in the day. Spent many a school day sitting in the back of the room by an open window no matter how cold it was. I remember Mrs. Gilman, an old farmer's wife/teacher, sticking her head in the classroom door and asking "Who was the lucky guy in here? Was it a black one?"
