That video is for plant propagation by air rooting, not grafting. That method does work well for rooting because the Auxin, produced at the top of the plant, that flows to the bottom to promote root growth, collects at the cut.

I just gave my partner about 50 air rooting pods, to clone a weeping mulberry like that.

So by putting an Apple (no seeds or buds on to a donor stem will produce an apple seedling?

Typically you graft known apple scions and/or buds onto apple or pear root stock whips, so it will produce the fruit you want. Root stock is usually selected for vigor in the area you are planting and to control the eventual size of the tree.

Scions are basically just roughly 1 year old twigs or branches.

Whips are 1 to a few year old trees, usually with no side branches.

Buds have a lot of undifferentiated cells, that you can direct with hormones and light, to.produce roots, branches, leaves and in many cases fruit.

You can graft scions and buds on older trees too. Depending on the size of the tree you are grafting onto, you can put a great many different varieties on the same tree. I have heard someone put over 60 varieties of apples on 1 tree once.

You have to graft on related plants.

Peach, nectarine, apricot, sour cherry, sweet cherry, plum and almond can usually all be grafted on each other.

Apple, pear, crab apple and quince can usually all be grafted on each other.

Some varieties are harder to graft than others. Most are pretty easy.

I hope the deer, rabbits and voles leave your trees alone and they produce some tasty apples for you.
